Opposition in the Sindh Assembly on Monday questioned the government over disbursement of over Rs 6 million per annum on a drawn-out Zulfikarabad City project. They denounced the government for splurging public money on unviable schemes. PTI's Khurrum Sher Zaman Khan asked the PPP government what was the rationale behind spending over Rs 6 million to run the site offices of the project, since it is not moving forward. He said that the government is not concerned over the splurging of public taxed money.

Dr Mendhro, replying to queries during the questions and answers session, said that there are two site offices for the project; one in Karachi's Shireen Jinnah Colony and other in Thatta. He said that the rent of Karachi office is Rs 6 million per year. He said that it cannot be predicted whether the project would see completion in five or ten years.

He said that the government feeds the project through its umbrella scheme and not from any budgetary funding. Elaborating on the project, he said that the Sindh government has a plan to develop an independent provincial harbour at the proposed city to function without the federal government's control. The government also ponders to found a fishing city at the project keeping in view sprawling fishermen communities in the area, besides making Keti Bunder seaport operational.

The house turned into a slight chaos when MQM's Dewan Chand Chawla and Deputy Speaker, Shehla Raza who was chairing the session, exchanged words. The Deputy Speaker at the end threatened Chawla of suffering anything while walking on road. On which, MQM's Faisal Sabzwari asked the chair to use better expressive language that should not be threatening. He said that the chair could admonish the legislator in a decent way if he violated the rules.

The treasury rejected Khurrum Sher Zaman Khan's privilege motion for being against the assembly rules and procedures. The mover sought explanation on his questions put to the house not being answered for quite a while. The house adopted Sukkur IBA University (Amendment) Bill 2017 and introduced Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases Bill 2017. Earlier, Speaker, Aga Siraj Khan Durrani felicitated the house and thanked the opposition for supporting legislations over the last four years, saying that assembly has completed its 100 days of lawmaking for this fiscal year.
